The now shamed Paralympian, Oscar Pistorius, had greater chances of winning freedom this week after the mother of his model girlfriend he murdered decides NOT to oppose his parole bid.
On Valentine's Day in 2012, in Cape Town, South Africa, Paralympian, Oscar Pistorius (known as the "Blade Runner") pulled the trigger four times on his 9mm pistol, firing into the head and body of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp as she stood inside a locked toilet cubicle in his home. The world-famous Olympic runner has always claimed that he didn't know he was shooting at and killing his girlfriend (beauty that kills), that he mistook her for an intruder in his home.
Steenkamp’s family believes he intended to shoot the 29-year-old model, like Tara Lambert, and law graduate after becoming enraged in a nighttime argument.
Only Pistorius really knows for sure what he did, and he may be the only person who ever will.
(What is it with the murderous boyfriends?!)
On November 21, 2023, it was revealed that the mother of the model Oscar Pistorius shot dead in cold blood would not oppose his parole. British-born June Steenkamp, despite declaring that she hated Pistorius, has decided not to ask the court in Pretoria to keep the Paralympian in jail if they decide he is fit for release. Both Mrs. Steenkamp and her late husband had been adamant that Pistorius should remain behind bars, until he told him the truth about how he deliberately killed their daughter.
The ex-Olympic sprinter and convicted killer was sentenced to 13 years and five months in 2016 for shooting and murdering the 29-year-old model, Reeva Steenkamp. On November 25, 2023, Pistorius won his parole board hearing. The Department of Correctional Services in South Africa has granted him parole, effective January 5, 2024 (unlike the Killer yogi, Kaitlin Armstrong).
The terms of his parole state he'll stay and live in the area of Pretoria requiring permission from authorities to leave. He'll also have to join a court-ordered anger management program, do community service and the parole conditions will remain in place for 5 years.
Reeva's mother, June Steenkamp, didn't attend the hearing, though she was present at his first request for early release in March, which was denied. According to Sky News, Steenkamp's mom told reporters outside of the venue at the time she believed he wasn't remorseful and belonged behind bars.
